When the Anointed Fall
It is a privilege to share God’s Word with you today. As we look at the world around us—specifically the heavy news coming out of the Middle East—we must remember that God is not surprised by the headlines. He is the Sovereign Lord over every nation, every leader, and every heart.
The Story: A King Called by Name
History tells us of a man named Cyrus the Great. Long before he was even born, the Lord spoke through the prophet Isaiah and called this Persian king His “anointed.” Imagine that—a leader of the very land we now call Iran was chosen by the Almighty to be a shepherd to His people. Cyrus was the man God used to break the chains of Babylonian captivity, decreeing that the Jewish people could return home and rebuild their Temple. He was a man of immense power, yet he was positioned by God to be a blessing to the world.
The Current Event: “Operation Epic Fury”
But as we fast-forward to March 8, 2026, the news provides a tragic contrast. Over the past week, we have watched the United States and Israel carry out “Operation Epic Fury.” The strikes across Tehran and the reported death of the Supreme Leader mark a violent end to a regime that had moved far from the legacy of Cyrus. Instead of being a protector of the people, the leadership chose a path of nuclear ambition, regional instability, and the oppression of its own citizens. What was once a land of “anointed” purpose became a center of global fear.
The Biblical Truth: Why Leaders Fall
The Bible is clear: no one is immune to a fall if they drift from the presence of God. When we look at the Modern English Version (MEV), we see the warnings that the leaders in Tehran—and we ourselves—must heed.
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
— Proverbs 16:18
The fall of a nation or a person starts with Pride. We begin to think that our strength is our own. We stop seeking the Lord’s face and start seeking our own glory. The MEV also tells us in Proverbs 29:1:
“He who is often reproved, yet hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.”
The tragedy we see in the Middle East today is the result of a “hardened neck”—a refusal to listen to the warnings of the Lord and the international community. When we choose our way over His way, the results are always disastrous.
The Application: Guarding Your Own Heart
My friend, you may not be a world leader, but you are a leader in your home, your workplace, and your community. The “drift” that destroyed a regime can happen in any of our lives. It begins when we stop praying, when we stop reading the Word, and when we think we can handle life on our own.
As we watch the smoke rise over Tehran, let it be a reminder to us: Stay humble. Stay dependent. Stay close to the Father.
Our Prayer for Today
“Heavenly Father, we pray for the people of Iran caught in the crossfire of this war. We pray for our leaders to have divine wisdom. And Lord, we ask that You would search our own hearts. Remove the pride that leads to destruction and keep us walking in the anointing You have placed on our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
