Devotion: God, Don’t You Care?
True Story
In 2018, during a charter fishing trip off Sarasota, a storm rolled in faster than expected. The boat’s captain, experienced and calm, instructed everyone to sit still and trust him. The waves reached six feet and winds howled, but he navigated through it safely. One passenger later said, “I thought we were going to die… but the captain wasn’t even rattled. That gave me peace.”
Scripture (MEV)
“He was in the stern asleep on a pillow. They woke Him and said, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?’ He rose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ Then the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”
— Mark 4:38–39 (MEV)
Reflection
The disciples were in a storm with Jesus—but still panicked. Just like that fishing trip, the presence of someone who knows what they’re doing makes all the difference. Jesus wasn’t worried because He had full authority over the storm.
The problem wasn’t the storm—it was their fear and doubt. When life feels out of control, Jesus might seem “asleep,” but He’s always in charge. His calm is greater than your chaos.
Personal Reflection
- What storm are you facing right now—emotionally, spiritually, or physically?
- Have you been asking, “God, don’t You care?”
- How would your perspective change if you truly believed Jesus was in the boat with you?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for being with me even when the storm feels overwhelming. Help me trust You even when I don’t understand. Speak peace into my heart and remind me that You are still in control. Amen.
